Hospitality Venue Review – The Fernery
First impressions
Plant heaven with city views.

The Fernery is located on the rooftop of the Mosman Club with a rosé bar, cane furniture, rugs, pot plants everywhere, glimpses of Balmoral and a perfect spot to unwind with friends for a vino and delicious food.
The Fernery is a destination venue, which provides a tranquil escape for its patrons. Designed by Pony Design Co it channels "a mid-century greenhouse aesthetic with a splash of sophisticated charm.”

You can ascend the white, atrium-like, curved staircase with white linen curtains and planting softening the journey. As you arrive at the Fernery rooftop there is a concrete pillar adorned with cacti and is a nice element both visually and directionally for circulation of guests. White metal arches create the defining entrance to this idyllic rooftop bar.
1950’s style cane chairs are softened with cushions in pastels and cosy throws to create the feeling of comfort and never wanting to leave. Great attention has been paid to the design of the joinery and styling of pot plants, decorative screens and unique seating areas.

With two bars to choose from, everyone is able to find their cocktail or favourite beverage. The food menu is also created to cater for the whole family or group of friends.
As an interior designer my eyes were continuously roaming and finding beautifully designed screens, nooks styled with home wares and vases, cacti on every table, fixed booth seating for groups, high and low seating options, communal tables or tables for two.

Alfresco dining is the star of this design with outdoor balconies on either side, capturing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Harbour on one side and views of Mosman shops and glimpses of the heads and ocean to the East.
There is as much focus on furniture, layout and circulation as there is on the bar design and joinery of waiters stations. The bars are stunning yet simple in their design, with a square white ceramic tile used on bar fronts.

The planting is also a star in this rooftop design; the main dining area between the two bars is adorned with hanging planters. Pot plants hide every corner for good feng shui and visual interest, let alone creating a very peaceful and purified space.

The furniture – its careful selection and play with 1950’s style works perfectly with the greenhouse rooftop aesthetic.
Creative solution/ quirk
Utilising an area of an RSL club to renovate and create fresh, exciting and beautiful spaces that many patrons will want to come back and visit.

My next visit will be during magic hour to see the sun set over the harbour and the pastel sky reflected in the beautiful interior of the Fernery.
